Latin American Economic Pneumonia

Last night I finished reading the book Latin America at the End of Politics by Forrest Colburn (2002). It was a concise, interesting reading that described the region as it has moved away from dictatorships, and military governments, to new evolving democracies. The following phrase got me thinking…

“When the United States sneezes, Europe catches a cold, and Latin America pneumonia.”

I think about this phrase as the economic crisis has had its worst effects on countries in the global south.
