Although the Jay Leno experiment, comedy at 10:00pm, was cancelled, resulting in the disappearance of Conan from the peacock network, the experiment has left a marked on television history as predicted by TIME Magazine back in the fall. As Leno moves back to The Tonight Show, he leaves behind a negative mark for NBC and himself, but a very positive one for the rest of the networks.
Television networks should thank NBC for experimenting with the concept of comedy at 10:00pm, which based on its failure, teaches all other networks to not play around with viewers’ primetime programming unless there is something wrong; otherwise they will stop watching.
From now on, modern television history will be defined as before and after the Leno experiment. Too bad that funny Conan had to pay for the mess his bosses made at NBC. I personally understand Conan’s perspective in not wanting to do the Tonight Show at midnight. However, does TV time really matters anymore? People just catch the show on HULU whenever they have the time.
On the other hand, late night comedy is no longer only available at NBC, ABC, and CBS. Thus, will people be switching to Comedy Central for The Daily Show, and The Colbert Nation, TBS for Lopez Tonight, or E for Chelsea Lately?
I wonder if people will watch Leno at 11:35pm. I guess this will be another experiment—what happens when a TV star switches time slots twice in a matter of half a season.
Just thinking…

Omg all of this is such a mess. I liked Conan. I think he was funny. NBC really needs to get their act together.
bummer!
Hmm, interesting perspective.

i hope conan finds a home.
and thanks for commenting my blog :)
that boston beach sounds absolutely delightful
I loved Conan, at least he thought strait and got 33M from the whole deal. Actually he got 40. but he shared part of it with his crew. I think he said something like: taking care of his own. NBC really messed up. I hope the best for Conan. One I really like right now is Craig Ferguson, because he is just so casual about everything, and all his guests look like they are having fun in there. They are not A-listers guests, but I like it better.
