Whatever floats your boat...

Who determines what is the right life philosophy for you?

I am sure all of us have encountered individuals who at one point or another have criticized the way we live, or have encouraged us to live in a different way.

Sometimes we need that help, particularly when we are not doing the right thing, or are simply lost trying to define our goals. However, many times when we consciously decide to live different from the rest, we are criticized, called weird, and alienated by those in society who think they can determine what everyone else ought to be doing. (High school flashback).

I happen to be one of those social rebels who want to establish a life philosophy and goals distant from the expectations and standards established by many in society.

I have decided to apply a diversity of concepts and philosophies already established, while choosing and building my own concepts. This way I can satisfy my emotions, meet my needs, and live life minute by minute based on my original philosophy. No one knows me best than myself.

I just want people to respect that; to simply admire my decision to live life in my own way—without criticizing, or alienating me from the rest.

At the same time, while we should establish a life philosophy and goals, we must be careful at doing so. Planning too much is not good. Sometimes we must be adventurers and simply explore life as it develops.

Thus, whatever your life philosophy might be—I respect it; whether it is having five kids and a happy marriage, or working, vacationing, and going out by yourself for the rest of your life; perhaps a little bit of both, or maybe something in the middle.

Everyone is the captain of their own boat. No one knows better how not to sink than you.

Just thinking…

So, so true. It's funny how society's expectations of you change just based on where you live right in town...if you live in the suburbs, you're expected to have 2.5 kids and a dog. If you live in the ghetto, people expect you to live a life of crime. It's our job to push past those stereotypes of what society wants us to be.
