I'm sitting on a plane on my way to New York City. It's Spring Break all over again.
I look outside my window. I can see the city's skyline. And to think this is the first sight of the city many immigrants see when they arrive in the United States. As an immigrant from the Dominican Republic I can only think of the many dreams and goals immigrants have when they first arrive in the country; dreams reflected by a skyline in the distant; witnessed by a plane that's about to land in what seems to be the Capital of the world.
New York holds the largest population of Dominicans outside of the
Dominican Republic. Returning to the city is like returning home far away from home, but yet a home.
"Welcome to NYC's JFK International," the flight attendant announces.
I am back in the Empire State.
Just thinking...

I wonder about that too. What was really going through people's heads when they first saw New York. My grandmother is from the Dominican Republic and she is always happy when I talk about the city! Have fun on spring break dear! You deserve a break!
Have a fun trip. You totally deserve it! I hope you will post pics and stories as soon as you get back.
